Some of them scoured the beach to find shells and rocks to paint their characters. One student learned a lesson about chemical reactions and the trouble with trying to paint on a medium that is too porous. I loved hearing their descriptions of creating the projects and the problem solving they had to do to complete it.
A student went to a ceramics shop and painted his project on a vase. Loved it!
One student actually bleached a skull from some roadkill to paint her calligraphy on bone! I was pretty impressed she did that!
This student made her own paper! As her base for the mixture she used old homework papers. (That got a laugh out of the class!) She had to try a couple times before getting the paper to stick together and dry right, but she persisted and succeeded!
