My 6th graders are a creative group and were so excited about this project. I love their enthusiasm, and they did a fantastic job! I am so proud of them!
Some of them scoured the beach to find shells and rocks to paint their characters. One student learned a lesson about chemical reactions and the trouble with trying to paint on a medium that is too porous. I loved hearing their descriptions of creating the projects and the problem solving they had to do to complete it. A student went to a ceramics shop and painted his project on a vase. Loved it! | One student actually bleached a skull from some roadkill to paint her calligraphy on bone! I was pretty impressed she did that! This student made her own paper! As her base for the mixture she used old homework papers. (That got a laugh out of the class!) She had to try a couple times before getting the paper to stick together and dry right, but she persisted and succeeded! |
I made the rubric pretty simplistic, but the day I introduced the project to the class we went into detail in our discussion about what was expected of them with each component. They were very excited about the project and produced creative, quality work. I can't wait until we start our ancient India projects. They're going to love those too!
